Okay, I'm done.
As most people probably know now, the Royals lost to the Indians last night thanks to some strategically placed sea gulls. Kyle Farnsworth being on the mound didn't help either. The video of Shin-Soo Choo's walk off hit made its rounds on every sports talk show and caused some rants about pesticides and fumigation.
My question is that why was play not halted and the birds shooed away? Did they swoop down during K-Farn's windup? Coco Crisp should have ran at them all crazy-like or gotten the umpires' attention. We've all seen the hilarious footage of squirrels and cats being corralled in ballparks.
And isn't there some rule about foreign objects on the field? When Randy Johnson exploded that bird with his fastball didn't that pitch not count or was it a ball?
According to this story the Indians are working on the problem. It's worth reading just for Crisp's comment about nature and Cleveland's Third Base Coach's fear of bird poop. But the easiest and most effective change would be to put in a ground rule about balls contacting wildlife.
Who knows what those bird brains in Cleveland will come up with. I should be pun-ished.
